Nancy E. Wallace, L.M.S.W. Founder and President of NEW HEALTH DIRECTIONS, INC., a company providing Employee Assistance Program (EAP) consulting services to international, national and regional based corporations and non-profit organizations. For almost twenty–five years, Ms. Wallace has developed a broad range of expertise in the areas of Disaster Mental Health, International Advocacy in Mental Health, Organizational Change and Development, Human Resources and Employee Relations, Employee Benefits and Managed Care Systems, and Conference and Program Organizing. She is a frequent speaker and trainer to some of the top corporations, conferences and organizations both globally and throughout the United States.

Prior to establishing her own business in 1987, Ms. Wallace worked as a Corporate Officer at The Bank of New York in the area of Employee Relations and Human Resources. Ms. Wallace went on to a position as National Account Executive at Family Service America where she managed Employee Assistance Programs and Managed Care Programs for several of the country’s largest corporations. She spent a number of years working as a community organizer in New York City. Ms. Wallace has been involved in the mental health disaster relief efforts during some of the country’s worst disasters, such as Hurricane Andrew, TWA Flight 800 and currently, in the September 11th attacks of the World Trade Center. She has provided expert consultation and training on crisis management in natural disasters both in Taiwan and the Caribbean.

In her most recent position, Ms Wallace worked for University Settlement, the first social settlement in the United States, founded in 1886. The Settlement assists immigrants and other low-income people with a full network of programs and services. Ms. Wallace is the Project Coordinator for an important research study, being conducted by Washington University in St. Louis, School of Medicine and the University Settlement Society of New York, of Individuals Indirectly Exposed to the September 11th World Trade Center Attacks. The purpose is to understand the long-term medical and psychological effects that this disaster has had on individuals, their families, and their workplace environment. In addition, as a Team Leader under Project Liberty, the mental health outreach program funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for individuals, groups and organizations impacted by the events of September 11th, Ms. Wallace developed a special outreach program to provide trauma services to underserved groups and communities following the events of 9/11 and coordinating a NYC school-based summer intervention program.

Acting as the Main Representative to the United Nations (UN) for the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) for the past 14 years, Ms. Wallace helped found the UN NGO Committee on Mental Health in 1996, served as its Chairperson for five years and has recently been re-elected as Chair of the Executive Committee. She also serves as an active member of the UN NGO Committee on the Status of Women. In her capacity as an NGO Representative, she provides expert advice and advocacy to government missions and to the UN and its specialized agencies on mental health, human rights, women’s issues, and disaster response.
