E. Garcia-Peltoniemi obtained a PhD in clinical
psychology from the University of Minnesota and is licensed by the
Minnesota Board of Psychology as a Licensed Psychologist. Her clinical
and research background is in cross-cultural assessment and intervention
with survivors of political trauma. At the Center for Victims of
Torture, where she has been working full-time since 1987, Dr. Garcia-Peltoniemi
provides psychological evaluation and treatment services to clients,
while performing research, training others to work with torture
survivors, and directing to overall client services program. Dr.
Garcia-Peltoniemi has lectured extensively on refugee mental health
and has served as consultant for the National Institute of Mental
Healths Refugee Program. She has also served on the Committee
on Scientific Freedom and Responsibility for the American Associations
for the Advancement of Science.
